Surface

The SIS Forum stand will occupy approximately 85 m2, an aggregation of individual stands 527, 529, 620, 622, 624.

Metaphor

The stand will portray a Science Tree. At the root of the tree will be the characteristics that permit science to play a central role in the development of the Information Society. Ideas conveyed by the metaphor:

  • Science, like life itself, is dynamic
  • Science's contributions constantly expand into new areas
  • On existing branches, sub-branches grow (scientific advances in ICT permeate all levels of society)

Organization

The stand will have a clean look, with as far as possible no hard copy display material. Instead, e-content will be displayed on flat screens.

  • The root of the tree will contain a big plasma screen to attract visitor’s attention, highlight key messages, and display selected sequences from thematic areas.

  • The branches will lead to leaves (thematic areas) reflecting the five domains identified at the RSIS conference: Health, Education, Environment, Development, Enabling Technologies.

  • Thematic areas (“leaves”) will be small areas provided with a standard setting and equipment (e.g. a medium-sized flat screen, two desktop computers, a smaller flat screen for individual navigation by visitors, a plug for laptops, and network access)

  • The stand will include a small common presentation area.
