Programme of
demonstrations
- A
programme will be set up for the exhibition
where selected projects will be invited to
present according to a predefined schedule.
Projects will be associated with one of the
five thematic areas where the actual
demonstration / presentation will take place. In addition, they may
also be invited to present in the common
presentation area.
- One or
several timeslots will be proposed to every
selected project during the period 9-13
December. The minimum duration of the timeslot
for a project will be 90 minutes.
Content and Theme
- Projects
are expected to match the theme of the RSIS
conference:
Science is a key contributor to the
development of the information society.
-
Proposals addressing the contribution of
science to development will be
considered particularly favourably.
-
Content of
commercial nature is considered inappropriate.
Presence of a presenter
on site
-
Demonstrating projects will have to ensure a
presence (for technical installation and
presentation) on the stand during their
presentation timeslots.
Internet connectivity
- Internet
connectivity will be provided on the stand as
part of the standard technical setting.
However, presentations and demonstration
should not critically depend on the network
access. The presentation should be able to
operate in times of connection outage.
Internet access, if used, should be considered
as a plus to enhance the presentation.
Nature of
presentations, demonstrations
- Presentations and
demonstrations of projects will be in
electronic form only. Presenters are invited
to favour highly visual applications,
(e.g. imaging applications).
-
Presentation material may be of two types (or
any mix of the two), and the standard setting
of the thematic areas will support both types:
-
Fully Interactive material (for individual
exploration by visitors)
-
Presentation / demonstration requiring a
presenter
Presentation setting
and installation
- Thematic
Areas will be provided with a standard
equipment (typically
a
medium size flat screen, two desktop
computers, a smaller flat screen for
interactive use by visitors, a plug for
laptop,
a network access).
-
Demonstrators will either connect their laptop
to the screen(s) (and the network if required), or
install their necessary application and data
on the
thematic area system.
Time required for an installation should not
in principle exceed 30 minutes.
-
Recommended media for bringing the
demonstrations include DVD, CD-ROM and
flash-memory, as well as lap-tops.
-
It is planned that projects retained after the first Expression
of Interest will be asked to provide means
of evaluating the actual presentation on the
CERN site (content evaluation as well as
technical assessment) prior to the final
selection. Details on this be provided in due
course.
